The Red Sea is a year-round destination, but water temperature, visibility conditions and wind change through the year. Here's what to expect each month, drawn from the same seasonal chart we use to plan our own trips.
This is the exact seasonal chart we publish on our homepage, showing diving conditions, average water temperature and kitesurfing wind for every month of the year.
| Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diving | Good | Good | Best | Best | Best | Good | OK | OK | Best | Best | Good | Good |
| Water °C | 22° | 22° | 23° | 25° | 26° | 27° | 28° | 29° | 28° | 27° | 25° | 23° |
| Kite wind | Off | Off | OK | Good | Best | Best | Best | Best | Good | Good | OK | Off |
March, April, May, September and October rate as the best diving months. June, November, January and February are still good diving months with slightly cooler water. July and August — the hottest months on land — rate OK for diving on our chart, with the warmest water of the year at 28–29°C.
May through August are the most reliable wind months, rated Best on our chart. April, September and October are rated Good. March and November are OK — wind is possible but less consistent. December, January and February are rated Off for kitesurfing, which is why our Charter Kite Safari runs as a group charter you book in advance for a date with good wind, rather than a fixed year-round schedule.
The Red Sea rarely drops below 22°C even in the coolest months (January and February), which is part of what makes it one of the few places you can dive comfortably in a 5mm wetsuit year-round. Water temperature peaks at 29°C in August.
Our 5-Day Diving Safari runs weekly aboard Iceberg, and our Charter Kite Safari is booked as a private group charter for the wind window that suits you.
